Researcher comments/remarks
The main entrance to King Edward Barracks was located on Cashel Street just down from the central police station and is depicted in this photograph from 1985. The barracks were constructed in 1905 to a design by the Luttrell Brothers. The building provided the largest covered auditorium in Christchurch until the Town Hall was built in September 1972. The barracks were demolished in 1996 and the site became a car park.
