Rifleman George Gadd, who died of wounds received in France on March 15, was the second son of Mr G. Gadd, of Barr Hill. Rifleman Gadd enlisted nearly three years ago, and had been almost continuously in the firing-line since the New Zealanders went to France. At the battle of Messines he was slightly gassed, but was out of the battalion for a few days only. Prior to enlisting he followed farming pursuits in the Amberley district. The late soldier was twenty-six years of age, and was much respected by all who knew him. Mr Gadd's eldest son, Arthur, is at present an instructor in bayonet fighting at Sling Camp.
