Researcher comments/remarks
Ward’s Brewery was located on the corner of Fitzgerald Avenue, Chester Street East and Kilmore Street beside the Avon River in central Christchurch. Established in 1854, it was the first brewery in the city. The brewery moved to the site in this photograph in 1860. The building was distinguished by bold detailing using Oamaru stone. Ward's Brewery sustained serious damage during the 2010-2011 earthquakes and the building had to be demolished.
