My ggrandfather was George Edwin Rowland and he was a saddler at 359 Riccarton road. I do have a photo of him and family members standing out the front of his saddlery.

We (Mike Pero Mortgages) currently lease this building and are intrigued by the history this building has. We've been hunting for older images of the building, other than the picture displayed above. If anyone has any further information or additional photographs of this building we would love to check them out!

I have to correct myself. This was in fact Rowlands Saddlery, built on JE Hanson's land but leased to others. See CCC HIM-466 https://districtplan.ccc.govt.nz/Images/DistrictPlanImages/Statement%20of%20Significance/Christchurch/HID%20466.pdf

This building was my great grandfather's store - John Edward Hanson (1841-1920). He was a butcher and owned land in Hansons Lane. It is my belief that this was his butcher shop. The building still stands near the corner of Hansons Lane opposite Waimari Road. It now houses Mike Pero Real Estate and has had the brickwork cleaned and restored. I believe he also had a flour mill that I am trying to track down.
