Description
One large glazed sancai ware figure in the form of a camel standing on a shallow rectangular unglazed base with five musicians mounted on its back. Dominant glaze colours are white ochre green and blue.

Provenance details
Donated by Alley during a visit to New Zealand in 1964. Inexact copy of a Tang dynasty original 'Central Asian Orchestra on Camel' excavated from the tomb of Xianyu (dated 723 AD) in Dinghui, near Xian, held by the Museum of Chinese History, Beijing.
