Soup plate: pink diaper pattern rim border with tiny red arches below; cavetto has 4 opposing floral sprigs in pink and green; central lappet-style medallion enclosing large spray of flowers in semi-European style, in pink, red, puce and green; all on a white ground; obverse plain; cut-away footring.

Marks/Inscriptions: Real old Bristol. Part of a dinner service imported by the Penfold family into Madeira from Bristol at the period of its manufacture. These plates were given to Mrs John [Shid....] (Ellen) by Mr & Mrs Izard of Chch, Canterbury, New Zealand in 1894.; Type of mark: annotation; Method: Hand-written; Notes: pencil note glued to reverse. Note that Bristol origin is incorrect.
