Description
Short handled shingling hatchet. Round shouldered blade with notch on lower edge for nail pulling. Has a hammer poll from head. Left face has indecipherable makers mark, oval with text. Handle straight grained. Hatchet head held in place by iron wedge which splits top of handle. Handle has string wrist strap. Accessed as "early type of hatchet as used by the whalers".
