Researcher comments/remarks
Construction began on Christchurch Cathedral in 1863, though it was delayed due to financial constraints. When building recommenced in 1873, Mountfort was made supervising architect. He was recommended for the job by George Gilbert Scott, who designed the Cathedral. This elevation drawing of the tower and west frontage was drawn by Mountfort. The Cathedral was severely damaged by the 2010-2011 Canterbury earthquakes, when the tower and part of the west front collapsed. The fate of the damaged cathedral was the subject of debate in the initial years after the earthquakes. In storage at Recall. No digital image.
