Description
The linen dress of the early 1950s. Homemade, sleeveless, lilac, elastic waisted. 1951 D177 (MRM).
Neckline: Rounded and sitting at the base of the throat. Has a straight keyhole opening from centre front vertically down (13.5cm x 0.7cm), this is closed off at the base of the throat with small opaque (lilac/blue) button 1.2cm diameter and a lilac cotton thread blanket stitch eye (in poor condition). Self faced.
Collar: Small one pieced collar with rounded edges, 4.5cm deep at widest.
Bodice Style: Bloused.
Sleeve Style: Sleeveless, self faced, topstitched outer edge, lilac cotton thread.
Waistline: Natural, elasticated. There is an internal cotton (lilac) casing sewn at waist level 1cm wide with elastic threaded through. Topstitching in lilac cotton thread.
Skirt Shape: Straight.
Seams: Machine sewn with mainly blue cotton thread (lilac in some places).
Edges: Zig zag like stitch with blue cotton thread or turned under once and machine neatened with blue cotton thread.
