Description
The linen dress of the early 1950s. Well made black button through. Hip pocket, pencil skirt. D178 1951 (MRM).

Neckline: V neck at front, rounded at back, self faced forward of shoulder seam.

Collar: One piece with internal stand, however not used as such as there is no closure at stand and it sits open and folded back at front 5.5cm deep at centre back neck. 13cm at front collar edge. Black topstitching around collar.

Bodice Style: Semi fitted.

Sleeve Style: Short sleeve, inset, one piece. Hem turned under twice, 1.7cm, machine neatened then hand sewn in place.

Waistline: Natural, semi fitted.

Skirt Shape: Straight.

Seams: Machine sewn, black cotton thread.

Edges: Armholes - handstitched, black cotton thread or zig zagged, black cotton thread or turned under and machine neatened.

Buttons: Black matt plastic with a raised outer rim, two holes for attachment. 1.2cm diameter.

Buttonholes: Machine sewn, black cotton thread, vertical, 1.4cm.

Some seams are very wide but there is no evidence of an alteration, probably used in original fitting.
