Description
Grograin "New Look" London dress in ming blue with wide collar, Duth pleated hip pockets and tiny Dior bows. Front buttoning. Self belt missing. D381 c. 1954 (MRM).

Neckline: Truncated V neck at front, rounded at back. Self faced.

Collar: Large one piece collar, heart shaped at the back, sits well over the shoulders and front bodice. Notched front edges with a small Dior bow (7 x 2.7cm in self fabric) situated over the deepest point of the notch. Widest point over shoulder - 14cm, depth of heart shape - 9cm, front edge - 12.5cm.

Bodice Style: Semi fitted.

Sleeve Style: Sleeveless, the edge of the armhole has been turned under twice 2cm and machine neatened then machine blind hemmed in place.

Waistline: Natural, semi fitted. Self fabric rouleau loops at both side seams. 3.5cm wide (belt missing). Centre front, metal hook and blue cotton knotted eye.

Skirt Shape: Straight.

Seams: Machine sewn, mid blue cotton thread.

Edges: Selvedge or turned under once and machine neatened or overlocked, mid blue cotton thread.

Buttons: White, circular plastic button stand on back. Top surface is irregular especially around the edges where it has been cut into peaks. 1.9cm diameter.

Buttonholes: Horizontal, machine with mid blue cotton thread, 2.5cm wide.

Back of the pockets have been faced with a very loose weave white fabric. As has bodice button stands. All buttons have been reattached/changed at some point.
